What is an air compressor pressure switch?

Why does a compressor not stop running?

What is an unloader valve?

An unloader valve releases trapped head pressure after the compressor stops so the motor can restart more easily.

What is a 4-way pressure switch?

A 4-way switch has multiple ports for fittings such as gauges, safety valves, outlet connections and unloader lines.

What is a 1-way pressure switch?

A 1-way switch normally mounts through a single pressure port and is used where extra manifold ports are not needed.

Can a pressure switch be adjusted?

Many mechanical switches can be adjusted within limits, but adjustment must be done safely and within the rated range.

Can I bypass a pressure switch?

No. Bypassing the pressure switch is unsafe and can create overpressure and electrical risk.

How do I choose the correct switch?

Is a pressure switch the same as a pressure sensor?

No. A switch opens/closes contacts at set pressure points, while a sensor/transducer sends a pressure signal.

What is pressure differential?

Differential is the gap between cut-in and cut-out pressure.

What happens if differential is too small?

The compressor may cycle too often, increasing contact wear and motor stress.

What happens if cut-out is too high?

The compressor may run beyond safe or intended pressure limits.

Must the safety valve still be fitted?

Yes. The safety valve is a separate overpressure safety device and must not be removed.

Can oil and dust affect a pressure switch?

Yes. Dust, oil mist and moisture can affect contacts, ports and mechanical movement.
